What Makes Us Different?

Like a number of programs throughout Montgomery County, most if not all of the families served are African-American, live below the poverty line and are dependent upon the state for financial assistance and food stamp related programs. 

New Beginnings is different than other programs throughout Montgomery County due to its holistic approach. In addition to providing after-school tutoring, mentoring and a summer camp (Camp Adventure) to grades Pre-school through 12th, the Center provides: (1) Family Wellness through weekly and holiday food baskets/boxes prepared and provided for our families; full well-balanced healthy meals are provided for the children each time they convene during in-person gatherings. The children are provided a full well-balanced breakfast and a heavy snack to take home for the evening during the summer camp.; (2) Christmas toy give-aways  in collaboration with the Episcopal Church of Ascension, Gateway Baptist Church and Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church; (3) Summer Camp offers the children the opportunity to be taught by certified teachers and is ran in collaboration with community organizations, the Episcopal Church of Ascension, Gateway Baptist Church, Trinity Presbyterian Church and Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church; (4) Hygiene products and emergency care packages in collaboration with community organizations and generous donors and supporters.

A large number of the children served by our Center have been in the Program since its inception and are now entering middle school, high school and/or college. Although some of Montgomery Public Schools offer after-school tutoring programs, many do not offer late buses. Therefore, in the majority of cases, our participants are unable to take advantage of the schools- in-house tutorial programs despite their tremendous need for the services. The children need us and we need them.
